New software aids visualisation and diagnosis of prostate cancer.
A new computer generated imaging device is being developed to help doctors diagnose and treat prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer, which affects around 35,000 men each year, can be difficult to detect. And, as early, accurate diagnosis is crucial to treatment, the technology could save lives.
See3D, a spinout company from the University of Aberystwyth, is leading the project with medical imaging software company Oncomorph Analysis Limited.
Speaking about the development, Dr Reyer Zwiggelaar, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Aberystwyth and Chief Scientific Officer of Oncomorph, said: “Once developed, this software application will be unique in the world. From our collaborative work with hospitals in Norwich and Swansea we know that our software analysis and visualisation programme will make a real difference to the important work of doctors in combating cancer by enabling them to diagnose cases earlier and improve patients’ chances of recovery.”
